I have a heeler/pointer mix. Pracitce Practice, practice. And then, when you can't take it any more, more practice! But seriously, always give the best rewards ever when they come when you call. You have to be way more interesting than that squirrel or bird they see down the street. THe better the bond with your dog, the easier the training. Good luck.

P.S. We want pictures.

My friend has a GSP & recall is the only exercise that she always rewards with food treats. She's also trained her dog to come when she blows a whistle.

Just like everyone says...Pratice Pratice Pratice..i know this with having a 6 month old that has decided that he didnt need to come to me when called...So out came the long line and whistle and Bell for collar.
Recall is a huge part of field work...So i had to go back to the basics with him and boy the results have been great.
Start with your regular leash..let him walk away from you and call him back...if he doesn't come the reel him into you while saying his name and come...repeat process over a few times..always end training on a good and fun note.

Your question remind me of a contest we once had here on K9mania, it was about the steps to getting a good recall. I'm sure you'll find it very helpful. Here it is:
