RIP Sunny Girl

Just after 9am this morning I got a phone call from one of my neighbor's. Her hubby and son are away on a hunting trip in S. Dakota so I'm watching his labs for him.

The neighbor's wife told me (Thru the tears) that her little house dog Sunny (a 15 lb terrier mix) had gotten the back door of the house open without her knowlege and got outside. Then she got hit by a car.

My next door neighbor was just leaving his house to walk his dog and saw it happen. The driver of the car didn't stop.

Sunny died instantly from massive head trama.

Since the neighbor's hubby and son are out of town, and because she was very shaken, I offered to help.

Let me just say this: It's no fun digging a grave ... but it's even worse if you are digging one for one of your dog's best friends!

Oh what a terrible story. How I feel for that poor lady. Bless you Michael for taking on the awful job of burying the dear little thing. A neighbour once did the same for me, and I was very grateful. It's a horrible thing to have to do, especially when you are traumatised after such a nasty accident. RIP little Sunny.

Thank you for the kind words and your kind thoughts.

The family means a great deal to me. I've known them for almost 20 years. They have always been more than willing to help me if I needed it, so Im just returning the favor. (We all must do what we can to help when we can).

Their son is one of the kids that I have been mentored (Working with Dogs) for about 4 years. He is a freshman in high school and hes a great kid. But he is also "easily influnced". With all the presures that kids are under theses days the old saying: "It takes a village to raise a child" is being taken literally around here! It is also being applied to raising the neighborhood dogs.

So sad..

I recently lost a cat the same way, how can people just keep driving like nothing happened...

Well my heart goes out to you, your neighbor and your dog.
