Question Question re-bones

Hi everyone! I need to be educated on dog bones. My dog loves to have a chew bone in the evening as a treat. I got her into this habit and she won't forget it if I don't give her something for a treat.

I have been told rawhide bones/rolls are not good.
I have been told compressed unbleached bones are better.
What about these dental chews-denta bones, greenies.

Can anyone suggest a product that is better over the other??

I have to break a habit...any thoughts??

my dog LOVES the hartz chews. the ones that look like a bone & the chip style ones. You have to be careful with the chip style ones if you dog is a 'gluper' b/c if they try to swallow to large a chunk they can choke. a close second for her are the flavored nylabone chews. They are pretty safe b/c they crumble as they are chewed.
Life it too short to wear a boring dog collar Custom made handbeaded dog collars & martingale collars

I feed proper bones - mainly as a meal, but you could use them as a treat, depedning on the dog size and how they eat things will depend on what bones you feed. Just dont cook them. My little ones favourites are chicken wings.

My cocker spaniel does not chew on bones or rawhide treats.
Jake the JackaBea is the chewer.
I started buying him raw meaty bones from the local Pet Store because
the rawhide gives him runny stools. I am not sure what's in them but I
suspect not good stuff.
He loves his bones and they last him a few days. Casey will even have
a go at it if he does the hard stuff first.
I have bought the greenies for them both and find them pretty good
even with the green stools.
The best treat that they absolutely adore is "Merrick Lamb Filet Squares"
They are dehydrated lamb lung. No other ingredients. They can be
broken into small pieces...They smell like something a dog would love
and easy to digest.
The Denta Bone and similar bone type treats are loved by both dogs.
I check ingredients closely now because of all the recalls though.

I will have to try the Merrick lab filet squares--the dehydrated lamb lung sounds gross but if it is a good treat for her I will try! Thanks

I have tried Check-ups Dental dog treats she likes them. I am not sure about the product. Maybe once or twice a week.

You might try the local butcher. I buy the real bones, they still have fat on them and marrow in them. I let them chew them outside until they have them pretty clean, then they can bring them in. I only pay about $.90 per lb. which is much cheaper than the pet supply places and I would think it is healthier.

Thanks- I have had the bones from the butcher-she loves them; I just worry that they might splinter-they are very large so probably the risk is minimal.

Bones generally only splinter if they are cooked first - its why pet shop bones can be more dangerous than bones from the butcher.
