New book and some videos

Just wanted to share with you guys a new book that I just finished reading by Karen Pryor called [u[Reaching the Animal Mind[/u], I honestly thought it was a great book. Yes it mainly focuses on clicker training but it also explains a lot about fear and secondary reinforcers (how they work in the brain).

I actually wasn't 100% comfortable with clickers but with the easy explanations plus the great examples given in this book I learned quite a bit about it. So I thought to recommend it to those of you who haven't read it.

P.S. Doesn't only deal with dogs, also has horses, cats, ferrets, fish, dolphins, hermit crabs and people too.

Along with the book they also built a site to add the videos of the examples she talked about in each chapter. So if you guys have some free time and want to watch some Karen Pryor clicker videos here's the link: http://reachingtheanimalmind.com/chapter_01.html

Anyone read it yet?
-Steven

I read that book, too. I really liked it. And I love clicker training. It's fantastic. You get to watch their faces light up when they've earned the click, or the yes. Max pogo'd up and down for a whole minute when he finally got roll over. It was priceless. I'll never train another animal any other way now.

Once they get the general idea, you'll get to say "yes" or whatever word you want, too. That helps so that you don't have to have a clicker in your pocket all the time. You'll also hear whining and barking once everybody gets excited. When my 3 see the clicker come out, its insanity. They all start throwing behaviours at me to see what we're "playing" this time.
